Etica Jeans White and Warren Cotton Cardigan Doen Blouse

A Week of Outfits 4.27.21

Welcome to my first ever edition of A Week of Outfits. It’s something I’ve thought about doing for a while (I recently saw Carly does this on her blog, I like how she re-wears a lot of items). When I decided to re-evaluate and ultimately pretty drastically change how I approached fashion content two years ago I struggled to find my way back. How could I balance my desire to share fashion content and outfit ideas with my passion for sustainability. I also grappled with what I felt was a constant push for consumerism across the industry of blogging (fashion in particular) along with social media platforms like Instagram and Youtube. It made me not want to share anything at all.

I’m in a place now where I feel good about sharing fashion content again. My goal is not to get you to buy more but hopefully to find inspiration and ideas for your own wardrobe. Occasionally I add something to my wardrobe or partner with a fashion brand, but my goal is to add to my closet with intention. I want to create a wardrobe that’s based on pieces I love, not because they’re new, on sale, a certain “it” brand or a specific trend, but because they fit me well, are made with quality and conscious materials, and I feel good wearing them.

So, here’s what I wore last week. I have found that getting dressed every day not only makes me feel good but also makes me more productive. It’s a great way to jump start my day. I might miss a day or two but my goal is to get a photo of my outfit every day for the week and I will share here on the blog on Tuesdays. I will always share where I got each item, if it’s secondhand or old I’ll do my best to find something similar.

Tuesday

I don’t remember much from Tuesday but it was obviously cold, lol.

Patagonia Raven Rocks Jacket (check out WornWear for used Patagonia too!), White & Warren Cashmere Hoodie (Jess20 for 20% off), old H&M Stripe shirt (similar), Prana Pillar Leggings, Botkier Chelsea Boots (mine are a few years old but the style is the same)

Wednesday

I take Marin to swim class in the mornings on Wednesdays and then I play tennis in the afternoon when she naps so I usually wear something more casual and easy. Getting dressed in a tiny changing room while also trying to dress a toddler with a wet bathing suit is, interesting.

AYR The Deep End Button Down (runs big, oversized fit), Summersalt 7/8 Leggings (fit tts), Converse All Star 70s Low Top

Thursday

Mostly a day of computer work, calls and scheduling/planning, etc. I really love this button down because it’s so comfy but looks polished.

AYR The Deep End Button Down, Everlane Straight Leg Crop, Converse All Star 70s Low Top

Friday

I usually try to sign off work a little early on Fridays to spend time with Marin before her afternoon nap. We went and picked up a bunch of veggies and flowers to plant for the summer.

White & Warren Recycled Cotton Cardigan (JESS20 for 20% off), Doen Jane Blouse (this print is old), Etica Denim Jeans, Sam Edelman Loafers

Saturday

We pretty much spent the whole day outside. Morning walk at the beach, and the rest of the day in the yard gardening, weeding, etc. I was worried I’d ruin these leggings gardening in them but all the dirt came out in the wash no problem.

Summersalt 7/8 Leggings, ABLE Mae tee (use MAMA25 for 25% off), Mate the Label Thermal Henley, Reebok Floatride Sneakers

Monday

Please remind me never to wear jeans on days when I bring Marin to swim class. Great in theory, terrible in practice (pulling stiff jeans on over slightly damp skin in a tiny cramped changing room, not ideal). But I love these jeans, they were such a good find from thredUP. Monday was mostly a catch up/work day, I got a lot of blog stuff done. I have a big partnership I’m announcing soon so lots of planning in the works and getting organized for that.

Vince Jeans via thredUP (this looks like the style in a different wash), Madewell Sweater via thredUP, Stuart Weitzman Sandals via thredUP

YES! I’m all for the week of outfits that are a) realistic (leggings, wearing the same shirt 2 days in a row because that is real life) and b) sustainable and not a plug to buy *all the things* I really enjoy fashion but the bombardment by ‘influencers’ and home bloggers who are suddenly like “buy alll the things from Madewell please” (I already do leave me alone) is too much. But I still want to see what people are wearing, because it’s fun. And fun has it’s place. Thanks for being both meaningful and fun.

Thanks so much Melanie. Yes very much a leggings and wearing the same thing multiple days in a row kinda woman, haha.

Love this new series! I am considering buying the AYR shirt – how do you care for it? Wash and hang dry?

    1. Jess

I wash and regular dry (low/medium heat). Not sure if that’s what I’m supposed to do but I’ve had no issues!

Love this new way of presenting the fashion content! I really appreciate the repeat wears (especially during COVID I find myself wearing the same things in rotation a few times a week since they don’t seem to get that dirty). Thanks for always keeping it relatable and thoughtful.

Love this post. I really appreciate the intentionality with which you are posting about purchasing anything. I’m trying to adjust all of my own consuming habits to be more sustainably minded. It’s hard when everything you see on social media, etc. is geared towards purchase, purchase, purchase! All this to say, more of this kind of content please!

Thank you so much Katie! I totally understand, I have to constantly check myself so I don’t get sucked into that behavior and mindset. Looking forward to sharing more outfit ideas especially as we get into summer, yay!

I really love this! I’ve been trying to approach fashion the same way and it’s a refreshing approach to a fashion blog. I look forward to these posts.

I’m a fan of adding this to the blog – the way you (and Carly) have done it provides a nice little glimpse into a day in the life. This kind of content is the reason I still go back to blogs. Thanks!

Loved this post!! Miss being inspired by bloggers…often now bloggers feel like salespeople. Seeing how you wear things in the real world and repeating items to create new looks- this is what I missed! More of this please!!
