Craig and I went on a little adventure to check out these graffiti walls we’ve been itching to explore. As I was looking back at the photos he took it got me thinking about art and style. At first glance, the thoughts that came to mind when we got there were abandoned, creepy, vandalized. But as we began to explore and discover little forts, passageways and rooms (yes the boots were not a great shoe choice) it began to look more like art. It’s interesting to me what people find is beautiful, what is art, what constitutes style. I have my own opinions and preferences, but so do you. And who’s to say either of us are right? Whether it’s a photograph, a painting, a piece of jewelry, an outfit, a song, graffiti on a wall; art and style are the ways in which we express ourselves, how we reveal to the the world who we are, and use our imagination. Sometimes I think this is intentional, sometimes not. But what I’m beginning to realize is that whatever art you create, what matters is that it comes from a place of openness and honesty. Allow yourself to create something without fear and the outcome can be quite beautiful.
