Now & Later Vol. 2

Despite the fact that I’ve barely felt good enough to leave the house the last two months, I still have plenty to share in this second installment of Now & Later. In case you missed my first one back in June, I created this series as a way to share a mix of things I’m loving at the moment, and what’s coming up that I’m excited about.

Now

One. Naturopathica manuka honey cleansing balm

I’ve officially decided this is my number one holy grail skincare product. Pregnancy has not been kind to my skin: breakouts, rough texture, and clogged pores, and nothing seemed to help. I used the manuka honey cleansing balm a few days in a row and immediately noticed a difference. It helps clear up breakouts without drying because of it’s antibacterial properties and nourishes the skins barrier while soothing and hydrating.

TWO. Culpable

For my true crime junkies, Culpable explores the unsolved case of Christian Andreacchio, found dead in his apartment from a gunshot wound to the head. The police almost immediately ruled his death a suicide, despite a significant amount of evidence that pointed to something much different. The podcast investigates the events leading up to Christian’s death and raises lots of questions about how the police handled the case. Christian’s family is relentless in their fight for justice and continues to keep this case alive.

THREE. NURSERY

I actually discovered Modsy a while ago, I think through Instagram, and was always interested in trying it out but we didn’t really have a need for it, until now. Modsy is an online interior design service that creates customized plans for you based on a questionnaire you fill out along with measurements and photos you upload to their platform. We will be turning my office (that I never finished) into a nursery. I was a bit overwhelmed by the thought of designing a nursery so I can’t wait to see what they come up with. I created a Pinterest board for inspiration here.

Four. MOMSTROLOGY

Right after I shared I was pregnant, Jeannie from Beauty Mystic sent me a little care package with this book inside. I love reading about astrology and learning about the different signs and this is one of the best books I’ve ever read on the subject. It’s really great at breaking down how we relate to one another based on our astrological sign, especially for Mother and child. It’s a fun read and helped take my mind off my incessant nausea. Would make a great gift for a new Mom or mom-to-be.

Later

FIVE. MASTER BED/BATH Addition

OK so yeah maybe we are insane to take on a project like this right now (way bigger than anything we’ve done before) but not gonna lie I’m really excited about it. It’s still in the VERY early stages, but we decided to turn our garage into a master bedroom, bathroom and walk-in closet. There’s a lot of moving parts and things that need to happen before we can even start, but the goal is to finish construction before my February due date (we will do all the work ourselves). I love the idea of being able to start with a blank slate. I’ll share more about the project once we can get started. In the meantime I’ve started a Pinterest board here for ideas and inspiration. We are still working with a relatively small area but I think the way we’ve laid out the floor plan really maximizes the space.

SIX. Little Women

The latest version doesn’t come out until Christmas Day and NOTHING will ever beat Christian Bale as Laurie (IMHO), but I am so excited for this remake. My cousins and I grew up on this story, the book and the movie, and I have so many fond memories associated with Little Women (our group chat the other day ended with this from my Aunt “I’ll never forgive you Amy”). I totally forgot about the recent PBS Adaptation which I’ve heard from some is pretty good. The Winona/Christian Bale version will always remain a favorite but I have to say this new cast looks pretty good!

SEVEN. FALL

Don’t hate me but I am so ready for Fall. I looked forward to summer for MONTHS and then it was just rough, and honestly I am kind of ready for it to be over. Of course I am hoping for a nice September and maybe even a beach day since I haven’t been once, but I just really love everything about Fall. Bring on crisper air, changing leaves and sweater weather. Speaking of, I love this knit from Everlane that’s wearable now and into next season. I’m hoping we can find time to go back up to Vermont in October for a few days, it’s hard to beat that time of year.

I’m so excited for Little Women!!! I watched the PBS one last year and it was good. But I agree, nothing beats Winona and Bale! I watch it every year the first time it snows (and a bunch more after that, haha)
There are actually a bunch of other movies from before the 90s version, one has Katherine Hepburn. I tried to watch it but turned it off in the first 20 minutes because I got bored, haha. But the 90s one will always be my OG.

Did you ever see the trailers for the HORRIBLE updated version that came out last year? They modernized it and it looked so bad.

OMG I had no idea there were so many others! Need to do some catching up. I didn’t see the updated version from last year but I’ll skip it!

  2. Lynn

Wow ! Lots of ambitious projects ahead . I can’t wait to see the nursery plans! So exciting! I too want to go somewhere Autumn for the fall. The Woodstock Inn sounds perfect to me now in this heat! Hoping you are feeling much better❤️❤️

This newest version of Little Women is actually the 8th film version, can you believe it?

    1. Jess

      OMG HAD NO IDEA! Crazy.

I’ve been telling anyone who will listen to me to check out Culpable! I won’t spill any spoilers if you aren’t caught up, but I finally feel like I know which way I’m leaning on this case…hope his family gets justice!
Also, I’m so excited for the Little Women remake!! The cast looks amazing.
Hope you continue to feel better ?

I’m about the listen to the latest episode, it’s so good, and such a crazy story. I really hope his family gets justice. Thank you xx

The 1933 version of Little Women with Katharine Hepburn is actually the ORIGINAL movie version. My personal favorite is the 1949 version with June Allison. The 1994 and the PBS versions are both pretty good too. I’m excited for the next iteration.

    1. Jess

Wow! I need to watch the Katharine Hepburn version!

  6. Dawn

I can’t wait until Little Women as well! (And congrats on becoming a mama soon!) But the original movie version was with Katherine Hepburn (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Women_(1933_film)) Though I agree nobody beats Christian Bale as Laurie.

    1. Jess

Had no idea! Need to go back and watch, but yeah, Christian and Winona forever.

Hi! I stumbled upon this blog from a Pinterest pin yesterday and am so thankful I did. Congratulations on your pregnancy! You are fierce, momma! I can’t imagine how awful these past few months have been for you. Better, brighter, wonderful things are coming so hold on to all the good that is ahead. So in agreement about Little Women. The 90s version will forever be my favorite… Claire Danes as Beth = magic. But always excited to see how new versions measure up. Excited to read more posts and dig into this inspirational space.

      Thank you so much! xx

Do not watch the PBS version of Little Women. It is truly terrible. I am definitely looking forward to the new movie version though!
