Happy Fall! Tis the season for sweater weather, soups and hibernation, haha. Excited to share the latest edition of Now & Later, including the fall booties I love, my favorite home decor at the moment, mocktails and more.
Now
One. artwork
I can’t wait to share the nursery next week, I really love how it turned out. We didn’t go overboard with decor because I want to let that happen slowly but I got a few pieces of artwork from local artist Lovici (Catherine Druken) and they’re just so perfect. I’ve purchased other prints from her before and they’re beautiful. For the nursery I got one of her custom Monstera watercolors (it’s gorgeous), this Ocean Evening print, and theAway limited edition linocut.
TWo. Fall/Winter Footwear
I have a few new fall booties that I am absolutely in love with and right now I am all about anything that’s comfortable, functional and stylish. This pair from Sorel is actually technically more of a sneaker but they’re waterproof and insulated and SO comfortable. I originally ordered black but got just them in Quarry to compare (order at least half size up). The new Western Boot from Everlane is so gorgeous in person and also very comfortable. I have them in russet suede (ordered my true size but they run narrow). Last but not least I wear these Rojas boots from ABLE a ton. They look so good with leggings and a chunky sweater or sweater dress, basically my uniform these days.
three. MOCKTAILS
Mocktails are life, at least for the next four months. To be honest I’m not really missing having a cocktail, I’m not a big drinker anyway, but every once in a while I could just really go for a margarita. Craig’s been making some killer mocktails and I’ve been meaning to share his recipes but for now, he’s a quick one you can easily whip up at home (it is National Taco Day after all).
Ingredients: 1/2 cup OJ (Natalie’s is the best), 1/4 cup coconut water, 1/2 lemon and 1/2 lime (optional jalapeno slices and cilantro).
Directions: Combine OJ, coconut water, juice of lemon and lime, jalapeno slices and cilantro in cocktail shaker and stir. Serve over crushed ice in a glass with a salted rim. Enjoy (hangover free)!
four. dried flowers
I have a bit of an obsession with dried flowers and greenery right now. Are you cringing thinking of old wallpaper and dusty furniture? I promise they can look stylish. Of course you could DIY, but I’ve found a few sources that have an impressive selection. As much as I love fresh flowers they only last so long. I like the simplicity and low maintenance aspect of dried flowers, and they make for a stunning centerpiece or accent on a dresser or in your bathroom. You can check your local flower shop for any dried options. I’ve ordered from Afloral.com and got a beautiful assortment of eucalyptus, french lavender, bunny tail and globe thistle.
Later
five. Sustainability with eileen fisher
I’m a huge fan of Eileen Fisher and really admire the brand’s forward thinking around the fashion industry and sustainability. I am incredibly honored to be participating in a panel discussion next week at The Shops of Chestnut Hill around sustainability and circular design. It will also be my first event/outing as a pregnant lady (haha), so if you’re in the area please come by and say hello. You can register for free here.
six. cookbooks
Two of my FAVORITE food bloggers have cookbooks coming out later this month. Tieghan the blogger behind Half Baked Harvest (also the name of her first cookbook) is releasing Half Baked Harvest Super Simple. Super Simple has tons of crowd pleasing comfort food recipes with quick and easy dishes from savory to sweet. I use the original HBH all the time so I can’t wait to try out Super Simple. Also coming out with a cookbook this month is Michelle from Hummingbird High. Weeknight Baking focuses on delicious recipes for pies, cakes, cookies and more without having to spend hours in the kitchen. I have LOVED every recipe I’ve tried from Michelle’s blog so I’m excited to dive into her cookbook. One of my favorite fall/winter activities.
seven. office/playroom
While our master bedroom/bathroom addition is underway, I’m already planning what we’re going to do with our existing bedroom. Since my office is now the nursery, we decided to make our bedroom an office/playroom. Right now, Craig’s office is in the basement (which quite frankly I think he prefers) and mine is at the dining room table. I plan to use Modsy (use code JESSKIRBY20 for 20% off through 10/31/19) to help me with the layout and design, but I’ve also started a Pinterest board for ideas and inspiration. It will technically also be a guest bedroom because it has a half bath so it will be multi-purpose, but I’m excited to have an actual office, since I never finished mine, and a guest room on the first level (right now we only have one in the basement).
