Where to Stay

It doesn’t get more festive and special than the Ritz-Carlton Boston. We were so thankful to partner with the hotel and stay in a suite during the holiday season. From the moment you step through the front doors you’re greeted with warmth and holiday cheer. It’s the perfect location if you’re attending a show at the Citizens Bank Opera House or Wang Theater as both are within walking distance of the hotel. We went to the Boston Ballet which was so convenient as we only had to walk a block, especially with a little one.

Our room overlooked Boston Common which was festive and lit up for the holidays. Fun fact, the Boston Common is the oldest public park in the country. The Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge is one of the best amenities when you’re traveling with kids. They have breakfast, lunch and lovely snack and drink options throughout the day. There are also fun amenities specifically for children including a welcome gift, and special tent for your room (a surprise my toddler absolutely loved).

Don’t miss the Avery Bar, pass through the lobby and you’ll find a beautifully decorated, cozy and luxurious space with a fireplace, couches, and lots of festive holiday decor. Grab a drink and a light bite after a show and the kids can write letters to Santa located right next to the lounge area.

The Ritz-Carlton Boston offers a luxurious and family-friendly stay, making it the perfect home base for exploring the city during the holidays. From the cozy warmth of the Avery Bar to the festive views of Boston Common, every detail is designed to make your trip special and memorable.

Things to Do with Kids in Boston

Boston Ballet

It doesn’t get more festive than seeing a performance of the Nutcracker at the Boston Ballet during the holidays. The show is about 2 hours (with a 20 minute intermission). There were some very young kids in the audience and I was really impressed they made it the whole way through. The show is engaging and beautiful, my 4 year old absolutely loved it.

The New England Aquarium

As you approach the New England Aquarium you’ll be greeted by seals outside the entrance. With everything from sea lions to penguins to sharks, the New England Aquarium is an immersive experience for the entire family. The size and layout of the aquarium makes it a great activity especially for younger children as it’s not too big or difficult to navigate. You could explore the whole space in about an hour or two, but could extend it if you’d like.

The Museum of Science

If you’re looking for a whole day adventure, the Museum of Science is a great family-friendly activity. There are over 20 exhibits to explore and no shortage of exciting live presentations, 4D films, and immersive demonstrations. Designed to cater to various age groups makes it a great place for family outings.

Snowport

The holiday market at Snowport is a fun holiday shopping experience with hundreds of vendors to do your Christmas shopping. There’s also lots of food and drink options. We went on a day when it was very quiet, and I imagine it gets very busy, so plan accordingly.

Ice Skating at The Boston Common

The Boston Common Frog Pond is open seasonally for ice skating. It’s a family friendly activity for all, with skate rentals available from sizes 8T to a mens 15. At night it’s incredibly festive all lit up.

Where to Eat with Kids in Boston

For breakfast or lunch check out Tatte Bakery and Cafe. There are tons of locations around the city and it makes for an easy spot with kids, especially since they have lots of kid-friendly menu options and fast service. If you’re craving Mexican and you’re in the Seaport, Citrus & Salt is a festive spot during the holidays. If you go to Snowport it’s close by and within walking distance.

And if you find yourself at the Aquarium The Granary Tavern has a kid-friendly menu with all the staples and is an easy walk. For a post ballet dinner check out Mast Restaurant, it’s a no frills Italian restaurant serving up wood-fired pizzas. For a slightly fancier night out with kids, Jiang Nan is a Chinese fusion restaurant that’s cozy and so yummy. The dumplings are a kid favorite.

Boston guarantees unforgettable moments for the whole family. The holiday season is the perfect time to explore this historic, magical city.
