Marin turned 2 last weekend and somehow I find the days going by faster and faster. It’s actually pretty amazing how quickly children change before our eyes, so fast that it can be hard to notice. I can’t help but look back at photos of her from a year ago or more, and notice how much she’s grown, and so have I. I’ve also aged 100 years because, toddler life, haha. Happy weekend. Hi Jess! Just a minor suggestion here – since you’re including a link to sustainable places to shop and calling them out as an alternative to Amazon (thumbs up), perhaps you might try to steer away from linking products sold on Amazon in the same blog post? I recognize that you truly just wanted to share those awesome socks, but it’s a little confusing what your message really is.

Hi Fiona,

I don’t think it needs to be an either/or situation. I definitely try to limit my shopping at Amazon, but I also live in a rural area, which sometimes makes it difficult to find things. I do a lot of things that would be considered sustainable in various aspects of my life, from composting to shopping secondhand to growing my own food. But I also think it’s important to remember that individual choices aren’t going to save the planet. Just 100 companies are responsible for 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions, mostly oil and gas companies. Corporations use messaging to make us feel as though “we” are the problem when in fact, a small few are actually destroying the planet. This is a lengthy reply, but I think or at least I hope my message has always been pretty clear. I do what I can. I vote for politicians who recognize climate change as a great threat to humanity, and I share my approach without trying to shame anyone, as we all have different resources and budgets. Hope that helps!

This was an amazing round-up! So glad to learn about sustainable marketplace options, and I can’t wait to listen to the conversation on focus. I was especially struck by the cost of cheap chicken–that was so important and eye-opening. I will definitely be revisiting some of your vegan recipes this week because of it!
