Many of you have may have seen my Newport City Guide that I launched a few weeks ago. As I mentioned in that post, I could go on forever about the things to do in Newport, and as someone who grew up here, there are so many places I love to show people when they come to town. While Newport is an awesome place to visit and a huge tourist destination it can also be really expensive (I know, I live here!). So I wanted to share a list of my favorite things to do in town that won’t break the bank!

Prosecco&Plaid-31.Shop: The NEHC // Cost: $25-$100

Full disclosure, I may be a tiny bit biased because my friend Ros owns The NEHC, but trust me when I say you’ll love her just as much as I do the second you meet her. The NEHC is one of my favorite shops in town with brands like TopShop, Wildfox, Saturdays NYC and Vans. Ros also carries the best Newport t-shirts in town and you can see the harbor from her bright deck chairs out front!

2.Shop: Farmaesthetics // Cost: $20-60

Once you step foot into Farmaeshetics you’ll basically just want one of everything. All made locally with 100% natural ingredients, this Newport gem is my favorite place to stock up on soaps, lotions and skin care treatments. I can’t live without their lavender milk. Prosecco&Plaid

3.See: Cliff Walk // Cost: Free

If there’s one thing you must do while in Newport, it’s the historic Cliff Walk. Make sure you wear your walking shoes for this beautiful walk along the water. About 3.5 miles, it’s really worth it to do the entire thing, though there are several public access points were you can enter and exit if you don’t have time for the whole thing. Along the walk you’ll see some of Newport’s most famous mansions including Rosecliff, the Breakers, and my personal favorite, Ochre Court.

4.See: Fort Adams // Cost: Free

Another beautiful spot on the water, Fort Adams has views of the Newport Bridge and the harbor. The perfect place to watch the sunset, Fort Adams is a state park, so you can bring a picnic or BBQ and have a cocktail while watching the sun go down over Narragansett Bay. And there’s no entry fee, and parking is also free.

5.Eat: Perro Salado // Cost: Dinner for two $40-60

One of my favorite places to get dinner, particularly in the summer, is Perro Salado. Sit in their back garden and listen to live music when the weather is nice. The restaurant was originally and old home, so the quirky small rooms add to the charm of this little Mexican joint right near my house!

6.Eat: Diego’s // Cost: Brunch for two $30-45

Clearly I guess I have a thing for Mexican food, but you can’t beat the $5 brunch menu at Diego’s on Saturdays and Sundays. A fun spot to meet a group of friends on the weekend and the margaritas are irresistible.

7.Eat: Mission // Cost: Lunch for two $20

Looking for a quick bite, hop on over to Mission for a burger and a beer. They have hot dogs too and falafel for vegetarians, the interior is funky and cute and a great spot to chill and hang out with friends for an afternoon.

8.See: Ocean Drive // Cost: Free

Depending on the weather, you can ride bikes or drive to get a taste of some of Newport’s most grand estates and mansions. The 10-mile drive is a breathtaking combination of public parks, shoreline access and historic mansions.

9.Shop: Egg & Dart // Cost: $25-75

Egg & Dart is one of those stores you can spend hours in, and it’s tiny! From notecards to coffee table books there’s so many unique options, definitely the perfect place to get gifts for loved ones and friends, or you!

10.Eat: Cru Cafe // Cost: $5-20

Grab a coffee or a biscuit (or both) and take a break at this conveniently located and delicious cafe right off Bellevue Ave. Their salads and sandwiches are mostly made with ingredients from local farms. Great place to get a pastry if you’re looking for a sweet treat.

Annnd, now I want a margarita!

There are so many places on the east coast that I’ve added to my bucket list lately. I just need more time (off). Isn’t that always the case?! Some of the best things do to are free 🙂
