How To Wear Neutrals For Fall

It’s probably no secret I love neutrals. My wardrobe is full of them and for me it makes getting dressed easier. I love how they are effortlessly chic and there are so many outfit possibilities. Neutrals are also just so timeless. These trousers and sweater above have been in my wardrobe now for multiple seasons and I’ve gotten so much wear from them. I tend to lean towards camel, beige, creamy whites, olive, and light brown, but blacks, grays, blush, and navy are all neutrals too. Work with what you love (and if you love color that’s cool too!). Here are some of my tips for how to wear neutrals for fall.

How To Wear Neutrals For Fall

Layer It On

Fall is all about layering. Especially this time of year when the temperature changes so drastically throughout the day. Start with a basic fitted tank like the Marius Top and layer with with a classic white button (Max Shirt) and ribbed sweater like the Basile Cardigan. Add a chic coat for a cozy outfit that will keep you warm and makes it easy to change up your look to accommodate changing temps.

Mix It Up With Textures and Fabrics

If you’re wearing a monotone look or one with very similar colored neutrals, make it interesting by mixing in different textures and fabrics. The key is to focus on different weights and thickness. I layered a thin fitted tank with a cotton button down and chunky ribbed sweater. The pants are a light knit so it’s not too overwhelming. Above I paired a white button down with the Lucas Jumper and the wool lined Taylor Clogs to add interest.

Incorporate Olive

I love using olive shades as neutrals. Tans, camels and browns are great but olive is so chic with creams, whites and beige. The Basile Cardigan in Khaki looks great with shades of off white and cream. I love the pop of olive with the Jules Boots as well. It pulls it all together really nicely.

Try Patterns

Patterns can absolutely work as a neutral. I love the camel and white gingham print on these Clara Trousers. They look great paired with creams, off white, brown, tan, and olive. The Paulin Coat (styled above) in Ecru Camel is another great pattern that serves as a chic neutral.

Play With Proportions

Whether it’s adding different lengths or combining fitted pieces with looser silhouettes, play with proportions when you’re styling neturals. In the look below, I paired a longer button down with a ribbed sweater and fitted pants. The relaxed silhouette of the button down compliments the slim fit of the pant and chunky ribbed styled sweater. Similar to above, where I paired the relaxed silhouette of the Matthew Pants with a fitted tank and then added loose layers on top for a relaxed vibe.
