You know that saying, “The carpenter’s house is never finished.” It’s completely true. I spend my days writing about home makeovers and impressive interior design projects—and yet I’ve been dragging my feet on revamping my own bathroom. And let me be completely honest. I hate my bathroom. From my turquoise shower tile down to the Mancala-style stones glued to the edge of the vanity top. So it’s way overdue for an update. But you know what? It’s OK. Creating a home is a process that takes time…and money…and energy. So isn’t it better to really figure out what you want? The first step of any project is getting inspired. Here are some gorgeous bathrooms that I’ll definitely be pulling inspiration from in my redesign.

One thing that I had to keep reminding myself was to look for inspiration that could be applied in my specific bathroom. Asking myself what do I need storage-wise and what can we do based on the space we have, helped manage my expectations. I definitely want to do a bold color in the bathroom, so thinking it would either be a deeply colored wall and a neutral vanity or flipped. I love how much storage is in this sink set-up above. We need it because we don’t have any closet storage. Also, white walls will really help make my bathroom (with its one small window) feel clean and bright.

At the moment, I’m definitely gravitating to warm metallics like brass. To keep it from feeling like a bling-ed out Vegas bathroom, I’m going to limit the amount of hardware, keeping it to just the essentials. If the bathroom was bigger I’d be able to get away with more. I also love the idea of a different style than your standard subway tile, these scalloped versions for the shower have some staying power thanks to their neutral color. See below for products I’ve added to my mood board for this project.
