Warm Fall Clothes for Toddlers

I got a flurry of texts from my cousins over the weekend asking about sizing for a bunch of things from this post as they were stocking up on their toddler gear for the fall and winter. Figured it was a good time to give this post from last year a little refresh and update it with some thoughts on sizing, quality, etc.

We spend a lot of time outdoors in Vermont. As the weather gets colder it’s all about cozy layers to stay warm and comfortable. Toddlers can be picky about the clothes they wear, so when I find something that works, I stick with it! These are some of the best warm fall clothes for toddlers that are great quality and will keep your little one toasty. I also have a post here on snow/winter gear for toddlers if you’re looking for recommendations on that!

Outerwear

L.L. Bean Hi Pile Fleece Jacket

This is an adorable and super cozy fleece with a great hood (that stays on). It’s very durable and washes well. I sized up for Marin (though I think it runs true to size). For chilly days all she needs is a light layer underneath.

Patagonia Retro Fleece Jacket

Marin loves this jacket and it’s adorable. She got this as a Christmas present last year and it still fits (size 3T). Probably her least season with it but the quality is great and it will make a good hand-me-down for someone. This one is very warm for chilly days.

Clothes

Target Fleece Zip Up Hoodie

This cotton/recycled polyester sweatshirt is so affordable and very cozy. It’s super soft and there’s a ton of cute prints to choose from. Marin picked the pink with daisies. It washes really well.

Pajamas

Hanna Andersson Long John Pajamas

Hard to beat Hanna Andersson PJs. They’re a thick cotton, super soft and great quality. Since she’s in a big girl bed now we do these with a light blanket at night. I size up in these.

L.L. Bean Toddlers’ Wicked Good Slippers

I got these last year for Marin and she loved them so I bought another pair in her size. They’re warm and have a great rubber sole on the bottom so they’re no slippery. She likes that she can put these on herself too.

Boots, Hats and Gloves

UGG Bolden Boots

I got these boots for Marin last year mainly because of the zipper but they have a stretchy panel on one side too which makes them really easy to get on and off. They must be comfortable because she loves to wear them! They’re also waterproof. Her pair from last year still look new and she wore them a ton. I bought her another pair for this year and just went up to an 8T because she’s in between sizes right now.

Skida Neckwarmer

You might remember the Skida Neckwarmers because I share them all the time including the adult styles I buy a few for myself. They’re the best neckwarmers ever. So warm and made in Vermont! They makes kids styles too and when it’s extra chilly these are perfect for staying warm.

Burton Minishred Mittens

If you’re looking for the best cold weather mittens ever look no further. These are super warm, so easy to get on and they actually stay on! They are longer and go farther up the arm so you can put them on under your toddler’s jacket and they won’t be able to pull them off. Especially if you’re doing anything in the snow these are amazing. They always sell out early in the season so recommend jumping on these if you need mittens! Last year I got Marin the 3T/4T and they still fit her this year.

carhartt kids acrylic watch hat

Marin’s favorite hat last year was the Carhartt beanie my friend got her for her birthday. It’s a great size because it’s super stretchy and still fits her this year. It comes in a ton of color options.

Thanks for these recommendations! Do you have a recommendation for toddler sunglasses?

    Thank you!

In cooler weather, you can layer a jacket or coat over the tunic sweater for extra warmth. A tailored coat or a stylish denim jacket can work well.
