Best Spots for Cocktails with a View in RI

Cocktails with a view at the Vanderbilt Grace Hotel Rooftop Deck in Newport, RI

Maybe one of the most amazing parts of living in the Ocean State? The killer views. When you’re here full time it’s easy to take them for granted because they’re around every corner. A simple drive to the store can take you past the perfect seascape with boats bobbing around in the blue water. So it’s great to be able to soak in an ocean view at sunset with a cocktail in hand. Here are some of our favorite places to enjoy this beautiful place.

The Vanderbilt

Newport, RI

One of the only rooftop bars in Newport, you can’t beat the stunning harbor views at the Vanderbilt Grace roof deck. Munch on yummy small bites from their menu and sip a delicious cocktails as you watch the sun go down.

ProvidenceG

Providence, RI

Like a little piece of New York City right in Providence—this rooftop lounge and restaurant is open year-round. Since it’s seven stories up, it offers amazing skyline views on a cool summer evening. With plenty of comfy spots to lounge enjoy one of their wood oven pizzas or a craft cocktail next to one of their fire pits. No matter what night you go, they have live music seven days per week.

Boat House

Tiverton, RI

When you step into the Boat House it feels like the entire back wall is windows. If you’re lucky enough to get a seat there on a summer evening prepare yourself for a perfect sunset view and cool ocean breezes. Their cocktail list is impressive with a little something for everyone. Might we suggest their grapefruit martini? It’s not too sweet and refreshing—perfect for summer.

Castle Hill Inn

Newport, RI

Practically a right of passage in Newport. You’ve got to head to the Castle Hill Inn to get a cocktail and sit in their iconic Adirondack chairs (which are first come, first serve). Overlooking the ocean and perched on top of huge rocks that line the coastline,  you get truly spectacular  views. The Lawn serves lunch and dinner from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. Stop by on Sundays for brunch too. They’ve got live jazz.

Ocean House

Watch Hill, RI

Ocean House itself is exquisite and located in uber-trendy Watch Hill—if you’ve heard the name before it’s because Taylor Swift owns a mansion there (next door to Ocean House). The property recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation including a makeover on their al fresco dining area The Secret Garden which is open to both guests and locals. Bright pops of orange looks gorgeous paired with their white cushioned outdoor furniture—but nothing compares to the ocean views. Enjoy a glass of bubbly and New England favorites like lobster rolls. Cheers!

Gurney’s Newport

Newport, RI

You can’t beat the views at the the newly renovated Pineapples Club at Gurney’s Newport. With a direct view of the Newport Bridge it’s a great spot to grab sunset drinks. Plenty of raw bar options on the menu along with small bites and pub food. Did we mention you can sip cocktails poolside? And don’t forget to take a stroll over to the iconic little lighthouse while you’re there.

I googled a couple of these spots after reading your post and they look so fun. I’ve never been to Rhode Island but would love to some day soon. I’ll keep your list for when I finally plan a nice visit. Thanks for sharing.

Try the Coast Guard House in Narragansett, RI, great place for drinks with Thursday night concerts right behind in the stone arch area. Great views.

The Eddy in Providence is one of my favorites. Also, the speak easy, Justine’s, in Olneyville is super swanky and affordable!
