Belle’s Cafe is one of the best kept secrets in Newport. Tucked away in the Shipyard (now Safe Harbor Marina), Belle’s offers breathtaking views of the harbor and Newport Bridge. A great spot to eat dockside for breakfast or lunch.

Corner Cafe

Corner Cafe is a crowd favorite so be prepared to wait (or get there early). If you’re driving down Broadway and see a line out there door, chances are it’s Corner Cafe. A very popular spot for breakfast in Newport, they’ve got all the favorites from pancakes and waffles to breakfast burritos and eggs benedict.

A place I grew up going to often, Atlantic Grill is another staple on the island. Serving up popular diner breakfasts, lunch specials and dinner, the Grill is a great casual spot to enjoy (and very family friendly). The Grill gets very busy on the weekends. Your best bet is to go early!

Cru Cafe is a very popular spot among locals and tourists. Located on Bellevue Ave, they serve breakfast and lunch, as well as a popular brunch menu. Cru has indoor and outdoor seating, and a very kid friendly menu!

If you’re looking for great Italian coffee and pastries, check out Mozz. They also have incredible locally handmade cheese, pasta, and sauce. This is a fun spot to do a cheese making class with friends too.

Nitro Bar

My personal favorite spot for coffee, Nitro Bar now has two locations on the island, one off Broadway and one on Lower Thames in downtown Newport. Their craft drinks are delicious including some of my favorites like their lavender latte and seasonal lemonades. They also have a delicious menu including breakfast sandwiches, avocado toast, and pastries.

Le Bec Sucre is a French bakery on the island and probably the most popular place for pastries. They regularly sell out, and there’s usually a line out the door. Get there early (they open at 7am) for the best selection.

If you’re looking for something quick and easy, Sweet Berry Farm serves up coffee, pastries, and pre-made breakfast sandwiches to go. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and if it’s in season, you can do some berry picking while you’re there!

Bagel Boys

If you’re looking for bagels on the island this is the spot (located in Middletown). Made fresh every morning (they open at 6am), Bagel Boys has a ton of options to choose from including some of my personal favorites like Rosemary Salt, Cinnamon Sugar and Everything. Choose from a variety of cream cheese flavors or get a breakfast sandwich. Make sure to bring cash or a check they don’t take cards!

Mori Sushi

I absolutely love Mori Sushi and make it a point to go anytime we’re in Newport. Don’t be fooled by the location, the food is excellent. Their sushi is delicious and fresh, and their ramen is one of my favorites.

Tucked away downstairs in the Perry Mill Market, Surf Club is a cozy restaurant and cocktail bar serving up pizzas, tacos and elevated bar food. They have big cozy booths indoors (a great place for large groups) and tables outside during the warmer months with a large bar.

BORU Noodle Bar

Boru is an awesome ramen spot located on Broadway. They have great variations with tasty rich broth and a nice casual atmosphere. I happened to go to high school with the owner Steve. Service is friendly and fast. Can’t say enough good things!

The Black Pearl is a Newport institution, known for their famous clam chowder and history setting. It’s a cozy place to eat in the winter months, and their patio is always lively in the summer. Located in Bannister’s Wharf it’s the perfect place to grab a bite after shopping and exploring the harbor.

Midtown Oyster Bar

Serving up fresh seafood and an extensive raw bar, Midtown Oyster Bar is a popular spot in downtown Newport. With two levels and several areas for indoor and outdoor dining, it’s a great place to accommodate groups (and a common gathering place for post-wedding festivities). Some of my favorites are the oysters, fish and chips, and the mussels!

This no frills dockside shack serves up fresh seafood including lobster rolls, clam chowder and more. Grab a table and watch fishing boats roll in as you enjoy the freshest seafood you can find. Open seasonally (check their website for hours).

A welcome addition to Newport, Mother Pizzeria has a delicious menu of sourdough pizzas and salads, along with gelato and a fun cocktail menu. Reservations strongly recommended as they get very busy especially in the summer months. A little tip, if they look full on Resy, give them a call, sometimes they have open tables. If you’re looking for a quick bite, you can also get pizza by the slice.

Mamma Luisa

Mamma Luisa is one of my favorite old school restaurants in Newport. Serving up classic Italian dishes in a cozy atmosphere, Mamma Luisa has been a staple in town since the 90s.

A casual restaurant and bar, Bar ‘Cino is a popular spot in Washington Square, serving up pizzas, salads, pasta and small plates.

My favorite place for Mexican food in Newport, Perro Salado is set in a cozy historic building with delicious menu items like avocado fries, shishito peppers, enchiladas, tacos, and the best margaritas. In the warmer months dine on their outdoor patio, and don’t miss out on the blood orange margarita!

La Vecina

Just around the corner from Perro Salado is another new Mexican spot, La Vecina Taqueria. I went recently and was impressed with their menu including delicious apps like street corn and queso. They also have an extensive cocktail menu. In the summer months they have outdoor seating on their patio.

Diego’s is another local favorite with a large menu and dog friendly patio. They also have a bar with water views and a popular weekend brunch.

White Horse Tavern known as “America’s oldest Tavern” is a Newport staple, dating back to 1673. With an upscale farm-to-table menu, it’s one of my favorite places for a cozy, intimate experience in the winter months. Reservations are recommended, White Horse is open for dinner only.

For a quintessential Newport experience, The Cooke House is a must. Go for the people watching, stay for the delicious menu and waterfront views. The Cooke House has several dining options including the Candy Store, a more casual experience, or the Porch Dining Room (jackets required for men). In the summer, Cooke House has a delicious fresh sushi menu. You can also cozy up at the bar for a cocktail with friends.

An Italian waterfront restaurant next to Hammets Hotel, Giusto has a creative and delicious menu featuring lots of small plates that are great to share. The pasta dishes are fresh and so yummy. Giusto is open for lunch and dinner (reservations strongly recommended!).

The Mooring

A waterfront staple in Newport, The Mooring has an extensive seafood and raw bar menu, along with many other comfort food favorites. The Mooring has indoor and outdoor dining on the harbor. In the winter, sit by the cozy fireplace. The Mooring also has a lot of gluten-free options on their menu, and an extensive cocktail and wine list.

The Rooftop at Brenton Hotel

If you’re looking for unobstructed views of Newport harbor, don’t miss the Rooftop at the Brenton Hotel. Open daily 4pm-sunset, the rooftop has a small menu for snacking along with cocktails, beer, and wine.
